Public libraries across U.S. join American Library Association's first “Digital Book Club” with gripping new ebook

Readers nationwide can now borrow and discuss the first ebook selection of the Libraries Transform Book Pick, a new digital reading program from the American Library Association and Rakuten OverDrive. From Oct. 7-21, 2019, book lovers across the U.S. can borrow an ebook copy of the inventive and riveting saga “After the Flood” by Kassandra Montag at their public libraries without waitlists or holds. Readers will only need a library card and the award-winning Libby app to download and read the ebook, then discuss via social media.

MSU Libraries launches major information systems upgrade project

(October 4, 2019). The Missouri State University Libraries, in partnership with EBSCO Information Services, one of the leading providers of research databases, e-journals, e-books, and discovery services to libraries, has undertaken a major project to upgrade its fundamental information systems. The foundation of this project will be a new open-source software platform called FOLIO. Because the MSU Libraries will be one of the first libraries in the world to fully implement FOLIO, the project is being called First FOLIO at Missouri State.

Kanopy Makes Two Key Additions To Senior Leadership Team, Opens Engineering Office In Orange County

(October 3, 2019). Kanop announced the addition of two key hires to its senior leadership team. Dave Barney has joined Kanopy as Chief Technology Officer and Chase Rigby is the company's new Chief Product Officer, both reporting to CEO Olivia Humphrey. Both are longtime veterans of Google. The company also announced a new engineering office in California's Orange County that will help Kanopy continue to recruit top technology talent.

Lehigh University selects Index Data for FOLIO services and hosting

(October 2, 2019). The Lehigh University Library has selected Index Dataas its hosting and support vendor for its adoption of the FOLIO Library Services Platform,planned for Summer 2020. The library's technical staff at Lehigh will manage the FOLIOinstall in Index Data's cloud environment with secondary support from Index Data.

EBSCO Information Services releases Serials Price Projection Report for 2020

(October 2, 2019). The 2020 Serials Price Projection Report from EBSCO Information Services is now available. The report projects that the overall effective publisher price increases for academic and academic medical libraries are expected to be in the range of five to six percent for individual titles and four to five percent for e-journal packages.
