Springer Nature's research sharing initiative SharedIt expanded to include conference proceedings

(February 4, 2020). Springer Nature continues its commitment to opening up research and enabling the advancement of discovery with the rollout of the SharedIt initiative to proceedings books. Following a successful pilot in 2018, SharedIt will enable to exchange/share links on individual papers in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) as well as in the IFIP Advances in Information and Communication Technology series from January 2020.

VuFind 6.1 released

Cactus Communications announces acquisition of UNSILO, a Denmark-based technology solutions company

Cactus Communications, a global scientific communications company, announced that it has acquired UNSILO, a Denmark-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) company that specializes in text analytics, linguistics, and data science. UNSILO, co-founded by Mads Rydahl and Thomas Laursen, provides AI tools and solutions for publishers to grow their business and improve customer experience through products such as Classify which helps publishers package and sell content in new ways, Recommend which supports the discovery of new and existing research, and Evaluate which helps scale up the capacity of the journal editorial office. It has partnered with leaders in the STM industry like BMJ, Wiley, Clarivate Analytics, and Taylor & Francis to develop solutions for the publishing ecosystem.

Clarivate Analytics to acquire Decision Resources Group, creating a leading Global Provider of data-driven solutions to the life sciences industry

(January 31, 2020). Clarivate Analytics announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Decision Resources Group, a premier provider of high-value data, analytics and insights products and services to the healthcare industry, from Piramal Enterprises Limited, part of global business conglomerate Piramal Group. The $950 million purchase price–approximately 12x trailing DRG Adjusted EBITDA, taking into account acquisition cost synergies but not revenue synergies–includes $900 million in cash and approximately $50 million in Clarivate ordinary shares to be issued following the one-year anniversary of closing. The acquisition is expected to be accretive to Clarivate earnings in 2020.

Mellon Foundation to establish a collective digital infrastructure at The University of Texas at Austin that will provide expanded digital access to the rich cultural resources of the university.

Springer Nature and the Materials Research Society (MRS) enter publishing alliance

(January 30, 2020). Springer Nature and the Materials Research Society (MRS) have signed a strategic new publishing agreement that will come into effect starting on 1 January 2021. At that time, the two organizations will partner to publish all five journals in the MRS portfolio—MRS Bulletin, Journal of Materials Research (JMR), MRS Communications, MRS Energy & Sustainability, and MRS Advances—as well as books. In addition, Springer Nature will host the archived content of the long-standing MRS Online Proceedings Library (OPL) and the MRS Internet Journal of Nitride Semiconductor Research (MIJ-NSR).

Catálogo de Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas en WorldCat

En junio de 2019, URICI y OCLC firmaron un acuerdo para la integración de los catálogos de la Red de Bibliotecas y Archivos del CSIC en Worldcat, el mayor catálogo colectivo de la actualidad, que contiene 480 millones de registros bibliográficos y 2.800 millones de ejemplares de bibliotecas de todo el mundo. Durante estos meses, personal de URICI y OCLC han estado trabajando conjuntamente para llevar a cabo esta tarea. A finales de 2019 se completó la integración en Worldcat de los fondos impresos de la Red de Bibliotecas y Archivos del CSIC. Esto supone que, a partir de ahora, más de dos millones de registros del CSIC, tanto bibliográficos como de archivos y del repositorio institucional Digital.CSIC, están disponibles a la comunidad investigadora internacional. Este acuerdo beneficia a ambas partes, al CSIC porque dará una gran visibilidad a los fondos de sus bibliotecas y archivos, y se integrará de forma completa en el sistema de préstamo interbibliotecario de OCLC (WorldShare), y a OCLC porque enriquece Worldcat con unos fondos especializados que en muchos casos son difíciles de encontrar en otras bibliotecas.

Austin-Area Foundations Provide Funding to Libraries for Open Resources and Enhanced Technologies

The University of Texas Libraries has received generous gifts from two Austin-area foundations that will support innovative efforts toward the transformation and modernization of the libraries at The University of Texas at Austin, including the promotion and distribution of open educational resources for use in the classroom.The Tocker Foundation has provided $355,000 for a collaborative project between the UT Libraries, the Austin Public Library and Austin Community College designed to promote the adoption, development and distribution of open educational resources.

Mitinet Library Services receives 2nd Consecutive Platinum Award in 2020 Modern Library Awards from LibraryWorks

(January 29, 2020). Mitinet Library Services, a leader in metadata management, is pleased to announce it has received a platinum award in LibraryWorks' sixth annual Modern Library Awards (MLAs.) The MLAs were created to recognize the top products and services in the library industry in a truly unbiased format. Products and services were submitted in the fall using a simple application, and then were posted on a private site with an enhanced description and attendant materials. These products were batched into small groups and sent to the LibraryWorks database of more than 80,000 librarians at public, K-12, academic, and special libraries. Only customers with experience with these products and services were permitted to judge and scored them on a numeric basis from 1-10 on a series of questions regarding functionality, value, customer service, among other criteria.

IEEE Introduces TechRxiv, a new preprint server for unpublished research

IEEE, the world's largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, announces the launch of TechRxiv.org, a preprint server for the global technology community. TechRxiv.org is a collaborative multidisciplinary hub that will facilitate the open dissemination of scientific findings in electrical engineering, computer science, and related technologies. This is the latest offering in IEEE's expanding publishing program, which provides authors with additional tools for enhancing their research, in support of open science.
