Wayne and Pike County Libraries migrate to Evergreen with the PaILS/SPARK Consortium

(October 22, 2019). Equinox welcomed Wayne and Pike County Libraries to Evergreen with their successful migrations to the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System (PaILS) SPARK Consortium. Wayne and Pike County Libraries' move will support 37,059 patrons. The migration included a total of 118,987 bibliographic records. Services provided by Equinox included project management and Evergreen software configuration. Data extraction and bibliographic deduplication were completed as part of their migration encompassing item, patron, and transaction records.

SAGE announces new open access publishing agreement with UNC-Chapel Hill Libraries

(October 22, 2019). SAGE Publishing announces an open access pilot program with the University Libraries at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Beginning in 2020, the program will grant UNC-Chapel Hill access to SAGE Journals and provide funding to cover article publishing fees for University researchers to make their SAGE research articles fully open access.

Chalmers University of Technology is the first institution to go live with FOLIO library service platform

(October 21, 2019). Chalmers University of Technology has become the first university library to go live with FOLIO with hosting services from EBSCO Information Services. FOLIO is an open source service platform created by a community of librarians, services providers and developers. Adopting the FOLIO platform allows Chalmers to manage both its electronic resources and print materials on the same platform.

Ninth annual Follett Challenge launches with more chances to win

With newly added opportunities for PreK-12 schools and districts to win prizes, the Follett Challenge today launched its ninth annual contest that rewards innovative educational programs teaching 21st century skills to students. For 2020, the Follett Challenge is significantly increasing the number of semifinalists to nine, from which the grand prize winner will be selected.Follett again will reward a total of $200,000 (USD) in products and/or services to groundbreaking educational programs that illustrate critical thinking, communication, creativity and collaboration. All public and private K-12 schools/districts in the United States, Canada, and Australia are eligible to apply. The 2019 contest marked the first time a school or district from outside the United States claimed the grand prize when Regina Catholic School Division in Saskatchewan, Canada, earned the honor.

Neben Katalog und Ausleihe wird auch die Erwerbung eingesetzt.

KCLS boycotts Macmillan Publishers' eBook embargo

(October 18, 2019). Effective November 1, 2019, the King County Library System will no longer purchase newly-released eBooks from Macmillan Publishers, one of five major publishers in the U.S. This decision comes after months of discussion and advocacy to urge Macmillan to reconsider instituting a new library eBook embargo, set to go into effect on November 1. Under Macmillan's new lending model, public libraries of any size will only be allowed to purchase one copy of a newly-released eBook for the first eight weeks after publication.
